City Council Meetings

All meetings are held at 7 p.m. at the City offices and are open to public. The meetings fall on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
If you need a sign language interpreter or other assistance, please contact the Clerk’s Office at 320-974-8760 at least two weeks before the meeting

HOME SALES

It is very important for persons selling property in Atwater to contact the City Office. In closing utility accounts we need the date of closing, the final water meter reading and the name of the buyer. If our office does not receive this information you may be over charged on your final utility billing

A REMINDER OF
City Ordinance section 10.102

Running at large is prohibited. No dog shall be permitted to run at large within the limits of the City. This restriction does not prohibit the appearance of any dog upon the streets or public property when the dog is on a leash or is kept under the control of the person charged with its care.

Dog Nuisances (a portion of Sec10.104) the owner or custodian of any dog shall prevent the dog from committing in the city any act, which constitutes a nuisance. It is a nuisance for any dog to habitually or frequently bark or cry at night...The police department and city office receive many complaints of barking dogs. Owners, please respect your neighbor and do not allow your animals to continually bark. Any person in violation of this City Ordinance is guilty of a petty misdemeanor.

WATER BILLS

The City office keeps a very limited amount of cash on hand so when paying water bills, please try to have moneys close to the amount of the bill.

House Numbers

Make sure that the front of your house has house numbers that are legible for the fire or ambulance department to read. House numbers should be at least four inches in height and in a contrasting color. When you have made a call to the ambulance, please turn on the light on the front of the house and have someone outside to flag them down if possible.

Atwater Chamber of Commerce

If any civic organization or local church would like to post any upcoming event please contact the City Office one month prior to the date of the event (or E-mail information to the Chamber Website at any time and we will get it posted as soon as possible). We would be more than happy to accommodate your request.

Water leaks are very costly

The city maintenance department encourages all utility customers to monitor their own water consumption by reading their water meter on a regular basis. The City does notify customers if their consumption appears to be higher than normal but because we receive this information on a quarterly basis a leak can go undetected long enough to raise the utility bill considerably.

Curb Side Recycling

Just a review of what will be picked up by Kandiyohi County Recycling. Aluminum and tin cans with labels, rinsed glass with the caps removed, plastic bottle with code numbers of 1 and 2 rinsed and caps removed, newspaper separated from magazines and cardboard such as cereal boxes and cake mix boxes with the liners removed.

List of items that are not recycled are aerosol cans, windows, mirrors, water glasses, dishes, light bulbs, yogurt containers, margarine tubs, ice cream pails, deli containers, corrugated cardboard boxes, pop cartons or wax coated boxes, or plastic bags. Corrugated cardboard recycling has its own dumpster by the city offices. If you have any further questions call 231-3587.

Recycling Days in Atwater’s are every other Wednesday

Building Permit Changes

An ordinance adopting the Minnesota State Building code has been passed by the City of Atwater. A fee schedule shall be assessed in accordance with this ordinance. Major changes in the permit structure will be the implementation of fees on mechanical projects (water heaters, furnaces, a/c’s, etc), re-roofing, siding, windows/doors along with the present requirements for permits. Please have a permit application and a full set of plans to our building official two weeks prior to the start of your project. The City has a contract with Mid Minnesota Development Commission as our certified building officials. Questions can be directed to either Butch Schulte or Jim Solheid at 235-8504.

If you have news items, items to be placed on the calendar, or links related to the Atwater area, please send them to the Atwater Chamber Web Page.
